Should old water pipes be replaced during renovation?

Decide from the condition of the existing system, access and the new room layout.

Record the pipe material, visible corrosion, pressure issues and any previous leaks. Concealed pipework may need to be exposed before its condition is known.

If walls and floors are already open, checking difficult-to-reach lines may be sensible. A qualified installer should choose the materials and test method for any new line before it is concealed.
