01

Why can the edge of a porcelain countertop break when struck?

Thin edges and cutouts may be more vulnerable to impact than the broad surface.

Overall surface hardness does not make every edge equally impact-resistant. Follow the product data for edge profiles, support and installation. Avoid contact with any loose, sharp pieces and ask the supplier to inspect the damage.

02

Why does a dull mark remain when lemon is spilled on marble?

Acid in lemon juice can react with calcium carbonate in marble and etch the finish.

Cleaning promptly may limit damage, but ordinary cleaning cannot reverse existing etching. Acidic descaler can cause similar marks. Ask a stone specialist about repair options for the specific marble.

03

Will a sealer make natural stone stain-proof?

A suitable sealer may improve stain resistance, but it cannot make stone completely stain-proof.

Suitability depends on the stone and finish. Check whether the product is approved for food-preparation areas. Wipe spills promptly even on sealed stone.

04

Is the maintenance of terrazzo floor different from ceramic?

Yes. Choose a cleaner suited to the terrazzo binder and aggregates.

Some terrazzo is sensitive to acidic products. Ask the installer whether polishing or resealing is required. Test a sample with the intended cleaning method.

05

Why shouldn't the solid wood panel be fully fixed?

Solid wood can expand and contract with ambient humidity. The connection detail must accommodate this movement.

Wood does not move equally in every direction. Fixing points and joints in large panels should be designed for the wood and construction method. Properly dried timber and stable indoor humidity reduce the risk of distortion.

06

What should I do if the edge of a veneered cabinet is lifting?

Find any moisture, heat or adhesive failure before simply pressing the veneer back down.

Check for leaks and hot appliances nearby. Some minor veneer damage can be repaired in a workshop. If the underlying board has swollen, inspect that too.

07

What to look for when choosing between plywood and MDF?

Compare load needs, surface finish, fixing method and the exact product grade.

Plywood varies in veneer and adhesive quality, while MDF comes in different density and moisture grades. Choose from samples and technical data rather than name or price alone.

08

How is engineered wood flooring different from solid wood?

Engineered wood has layers, so its moisture response and installation requirements differ from solid wood.

Top-layer thickness, core construction and manufacturer guidance affect whether it can be refinished. Not every board can be sanded again. Check compatibility with the subfloor and underfloor heating.

09

Why does the edge of a compact laminate countertop look different?

The exposed core of compact laminate may have a different colour from its decorative face.

Inspect both the top and the cut edge of a sample. Specify how sink and appliance cutouts will be finished. Compare installation and care requirements as well as appearance.

10

Does putting hot pots on a laminate countertop damage the surface?

High heat can damage the laminate and underlying adhesive. Use a trivet.

The damage threshold varies by product and contact time. Abrading a heat mark may further damage the decorative layer. Follow the maker’s care guide.

11

Can a glass backsplash be fitted beside a hob?

Check the glass type, fixing method and required hob clearance against both manufacturers’ instructions.

Plan wall and socket cutouts before ordering the panel. Ordinary glass may be unsuitable near heat. Install in line with the applicable product safety guidance.

12

Why does stainless steel kitchen surface show scratches easily?

Reflective finish and brushing direction can make everyday scratches visible.

A harsh sponge can add new scratches. Use soft cleaning materials in the direction recommended by the manufacturer. Judge a sample in the actual room lighting.

13

Why does a brass-look fixture change colour over time?

Solid brass, plated metal and painted finishes age and need different care.

Confirm the actual material and surface treatment before purchase. Unsuitable chemicals can damage the finish. Repair options and warranties depend on the product.

14

Is it easier to clean a black faucet or a chrome faucet?

Ease of cleaning depends on the quality of the coating, the mineral content of the water and the maintenance method.

Light-coloured limescale may show more on a dark finish, while water spots show on chrome too. Compare samples and care guidance. Avoid claims that either finish is completely stain-resistant.

15

How can I tell whether a tile is suitable for floors rather than walls?

Check the manufacturer’s intended use, wear rating and slip data.

Similar-looking wall tiles may not be rated for floor loads. Check wet-area and heavy-traffic suitability where relevant. Record the exact product code in the quote and delivery documents.

16

Is tile size enough to choose the right tile adhesive?

No. The substrate, tile type, water exposure and temperature also matter.

Flexible substrates and large-format tiles may need different systems. Use primer and adhesive that are approved to work together. Check preparation and intended-use conditions in the data sheet.

17

Why ask for indoor-emissions documentation for furniture board?

It helps assess how the board and its adhesives may affect indoor air quality.

A “natural” label is not enough technical evidence. Ask for the current emissions test and the standard used. Check that it applies to the specific product supplied.

18

When buying an acoustic panel, is it enough to just look at its thickness?

No. Check sound absorption by frequency, installation method and the room’s needs.

Decorative appearance does not prove acoustic performance. Request a test report and installation details. Panels may reduce room echo without blocking noise from next door.

19

What documentation should I compare for thermal or acoustic insulation products?

Compare measured performance under equivalent conditions and documentation for the intended use.

Thickness alone does not establish performance. Wall layers and joints affect the finished result. Check fire and moisture suitability too.

20

Won't moisture-resistant MDF be damaged if submerged in water?

No. Moisture-resistant MDF is not protected against prolonged or continuous water exposure.

Protect cut edges and joints especially carefully. Repair any leak promptly and inspect swollen board. Choose the material according to its certified use class.

21

What to verify when choosing countertops with recycled content?

Verify the recycled-content claim alongside the product’s care, repair and performance data.

A marketing claim alone is not enough to compare products. Ask for the material declaration and technical data sheet. Test a sample under expected use conditions.

22

Why do some areas remain dark on the illuminated natural stone panel?

Variations in the stone’s veining and thickness, or uneven backlighting, can create dark areas.

Test the actual slab in the planned light box. Plan the support and service access. Ask the supplier about fracture risk along veins in the selected stone.

23

How can I verify the fire classification of a furniture or wall panel?

Check a valid test report for the exact product and its intended installation and use.

A panel’s face, core and adhesive may behave differently. A “flame-retardant” sales claim alone is insufficient. Have a qualified professional check local fire requirements for commercial projects.

24

Why does the same material sample appear different colors in different rooms?

Daylight direction and the colour of artificial light change how a finish appears.

View a larger sample in the actual room and orientation where possible. Compare matte and glossy finishes under the same light. Confirm batch and colour codes before ordering.

25

Why ask about spare parts when choosing a faucet or cabinet mechanism?

Available parts can let you repair a small fault without replacing the whole product.

Keep the model codes for cartridges, drawer slides, hinges and other service parts. Availability and warranty terms vary by supplier. Request these details at handover.

26

What damages does the warranty certificate for the surface material cover?

Coverage varies by manufacturer, product and use; read the warranty before purchase.

Installation defects, unsuitable cleaning and impact damage may be treated differently. Separate the installer’s workmanship warranty from the product warranty. Keep the invoice, product code and care instructions.

27

Are differences in veining between natural stone slabs a defect?

Veining and tone differences can be natural; agree acceptance criteria for the actual slabs before installation.

A small sample may not represent a full slab. Approve the cutting layout and visible seams. Review cracks or filled areas with the supplier as well.
