01

Why does the water meter keep moving when every tap is off?

There may be unseen usage or leakage. First verify that all water-using appliances have actually stopped.

Record the meter reading and time and compare again after a while. The toilet cistern, purifier and garden line can also consume water. If movement continues, ask the plumber for a controlled leak inspection.

02

Where should I start if the water bill rises in an unoccupied home?

Compare the billing period with the meter readings. Check for a silent toilet leak or a supply line left open.

Even if the house is not used, automatic filling devices or garden irrigation can work. Note whether the water meter reading changes during an unused time period. If the meter and building management data do not match, also contact the water authority.

03

How can you tell whether the water dripping from the ceiling is coming from rain or from the upstairs plumbing?

The timing is an important clue. Record when it rains and when the upstairs shower or kitchen is used.

A single stain does not definitively indicate the source. Store photos with date and time. Schedule a controlled inspection with the upper neighbor and building management. If there is water near the electrical fixture, do not use the area.

04

Why do new moisture stains appear on the wall behind the toilet?

The source could be a cistern connection, a water supply pipe or the drain connection.

Watch whether the stain grows only after flushing or continues to spread. Identify the source and let the wall dry before covering it. If an electrical fitting is wet, keep clear and contact a qualified electrician.

05

Does grout that stays wet in the bathroom mean there is a leak?

Persistent moisture may be surface water or a leak beneath the tiles.

Note whether the grout dries on days when the shower is not used. Have nearby surfaces and the ceiling below checked for swelling or stains. Replacing the grout alone may conceal the underlying leak.

06

Why does the wall get damp when the water meter is stopped?

The source of moisture is not always the pressurized clean water line; drains, rain and condensation can also be considered.

Note whether the dampness changes with rain, shower use or the season. A plumber and, if needed, a building specialist should distinguish among possible sources. A stationary meter does not rule out every leak.

07

What does brown tap water after a water outage indicate?

Sediment in the mains or building pipes may have been disturbed. Avoid drinking the water or using affected appliances until it clears.

Ask whether neighbors see the same discoloration. If it persists, notify the water utility and building management. Comparing hot and cold taps may help locate the source.

08

If only the hot water looks rusty, where could the problem be?

The problem may be on the hot water production or distribution side. Compare with cold water.

Record whether the discoloration appears at every hot-water tap. A professional should inspect the tank, heater and relevant pipes. Do not assume a tap filter is the cause without checking the system.

09

Why does the faucet spray air after plumbing work?

Air entering the line can create temporary noise and intermittent flow. If the symptom persists, the connection or supply should be checked.

Note which taps are affected and for how long. If water changes color or the flow keeps stopping, tell building management and the water utility. If a hot-water appliance is also affected, consult its manufacturer’s service.

10

What could be the reason if the water pressure drops suddenly during a shower?

Other water use in the building, the shared supply or the shower mixer could be responsible.

Record whether the drop affects hot water, cold water or both, and at what times. Ask whether neighboring apartments have the same problem to help distinguish private from shared plumbing. Pressure should be checked with proper measurements.

11

What should be examined if the cold water is normal but only the hot water flows poorly?

A valve, filter, heater or restriction in the hot-water pipe may be involved.

Determine whether one tap or every hot-water outlet is affected. Give the technician the appliance make, model and recent maintenance history. Do not open hot-water connections to test them yourself.

12

Why does the water pressure on the upper floor drop at some hours?

Mains pressure and the operation of the building tank or booster pump may vary through the day.

Record when the pressure drops and ask whether neighboring apartments are affected. Building management should have the shared supply and booster pump checked. Adding a stronger pump without an assessment could damage the plumbing.

13

Why do the pipes knock when the washing machine stops receiving water?

A pressure surge when the valve closes is one possibility. A professional should assess the pipe connections and water pressure.

Note at which point in the washing cycle the sound occurs and where it seems to come from. Loose pipe supports or high pressure may also contribute. Sound alone cannot identify a specific faulty part.

14

Is it normal to hear humming from the water pipe in the wall at night?

A persistent or newly developed hum may relate to water flow, a valve or pressure changes.

Note whether the sound occurs when no water is being used and when a tap is opened. Noise from shared plumbing can travel into an apartment. A recording and the times it occurs can help a plumber investigate.

15

Can the toilet leak water without making a sound?

Yes. There may be a very small but continuous flow from the cistern to the toilet bowl.

If dye placed in the cistern reaches the bowl without flushing, a leak is more likely. Flush afterwards to avoid staining. A plumber should assess the internal mechanism and its model.

16

Why does the toilet cistern fill slowly after flushing?

The supply valve, inlet filter, or fill mechanism may be restricting flow.

Compare the flow at other taps. Note how long filling takes and whether it makes noise. For a concealed cistern, give the model to the plumber rather than forcing open its access panel.

17

Why does water appear around the base of the toilet only when I flush?

The drain seal or cistern connection may be leaking. Observe where the water first appears on the floor.

Stop using the toilet and photograph where the water emerges. Treat the area as potentially contaminated. Applying silicone around the base can hide a faulty connection.

18

The toilet rocks slightly but does not leak. Is that a problem?

Movement can eventually compromise the drain seal. The fixings and floor should be checked.

Note whether the rocking is new and whether odor or moisture appears after flushing. Overtightening the bolts may crack the ceramic. A plumber should inspect the connection and floor before choosing a repair.

19

Why does the water level in the toilet bowl decrease over time?

Evaporation, a leak or drain-venting problems are possible.

Record whether the level drop occurs when the house is empty or when other drains are used. If there is noise or odor at the same time, the common drain should also be examined. The exact cause is determined by on-site evaluation.

20

Why does the toilet bowl bubble when the washing machine drains?

There may be a flow or ventilation problem in the common wastewater line.

If the toilet is close to overflowing, stop using the affected drains. Note when in the washing cycle it happens and whether other drains are slow. A plumber should inspect the shared waste pipe and its venting.

21

If the toilet keeps blocking, is clearing it each time enough?

Unless the cause of recurring blockage is found, the problem may return.

Note what happened before each blockage and whether other drains are affected. Foreign objects, incorrect pipe slope and shared-drain faults need different solutions. Do not use the toilet if it is overflowing.

22

The shower drains slowly. Is it hair buildup or a problem in the main drain?

If only the shower is slow, a local blockage is more likely. If other drains are affected, the shared line also needs checking.

Note how quickly water pools and whether the toilet gurgles. Tell the plumber if you have used a chemical drain cleaner. The drain-cover access varies by model.

23

Why does the sink gurgle when the dishwasher drains water?

Draining the machine may reveal a flow or ventilation problem in the drain.

Watch whether water rises in the sink and whether odor remains after the dishwasher stops. A plumber should inspect the connection and shared drain. Do not dismantle the cabinet around a running appliance.

24

Why does the kitchen sink smell even though the trap contains water?

The odor may come from the overflow passage, drain opening or a leaking connection.

Note whether it worsens after hot water use or when the dishwasher drains. The trap, waste pipe and moisture inside the cabinet should be checked. Fragrance will not fix the source.

25

What causes sewage smell from a bathroom that has not been used for months?

Water in an unused drain trap can evaporate. Persistent odor may have another cause.

Identify which drain smells and whether regular use changes it. If the odor continues, ask a plumber to check the traps and venting. Permanently covering the drains can conceal the problem.

26

What to do if water comes back from the balcony drain in heavy rain?

Drain capacity or blockage may be insufficient. If water gets inside, protect the area and inform the management.

Photograph the water level during rainfall and note whether nearby balconies are affected. Ask a professional to check the shared roof and balcony drainage. If water has reached electrical equipment, keep clear and have the area made safe by a qualified electrician; do not touch wet equipment.

27

Why does dirty water overflow from the floor drain in the rain?

Backflow, a blockage or an incorrect connection may be involved. Avoid contact with contaminated water.

Record when the overflow occurs, any odor and which floors are affected. Notify building management promptly so the shared drain can be checked. A chemical drain cleaner will not address backflow from the main line.

28

Why does water appear outside the corner of the shower enclosure?

The source could be a door seal, joint or the area around the drain.

Note which direction the shower is spraying when the corner becomes wet. If water is moving beneath the tiles, replacing surface silicone may not be enough. Ask a professional to inspect the flow path and waterproofing.

29

Why is shower water constantly changing between hot and cold?

Changes in supply pressure, the shower mixer or the water heater may be involved.

Note whether the temperature swings happen only in the shower or at other hot-water taps. If the heater displays an error, record its code and model. Stop using the shower if the water may scald someone.

30

What to look for if there is hot water at home but it does not come from a single tap?

The fault may be in that tap’s cartridge, connection or local pipe.

Compare other hot-water taps in the same bathroom. Note whether the problem appeared suddenly or gradually. Give the faucet model to the plumber so the correct cartridge or valve can be identified.

31

Is it normal for the water heater’s safety discharge pipe to drip?

Persistent or heavy discharge needs assessment. Do not block the safety outlet.

Record whether the dripping occurs only during heating or all day, and how much water comes out. A qualified technician should check pressure, expansion and safety components. Do not use the heater if water reaches electrical equipment.

32

Why does the pressure in my combi boiler drop every day?

There may be a leak in the heating circuit or a fault within the boiler. Repeatedly topping up the water is not a lasting fix.

Compare the pressure with the range in the appliance manual and record readings when cold and when running. Look for visible moisture around radiators and under the boiler without opening it. Contact authorized service for the gas appliance.

33

What if the combi boiler pressure rises rapidly as it heats?

There is a possibility of malfunctions related to expansion and pressure control. If the limit in the device instructions is exceeded, call service.

Record the pressure when the system is cold and when it heats. Tell the service technician if water is coming from the safety discharge. Do not block a safety outlet or change settings at random.

34

What does it mean if dark water leaks from the radiator connection?

Heating circuit water may be escaping from the connection; corrosion and circuit condition should be examined.

Note whether the leak increases as it warms up and the pressure change. Protect furniture and floors. For permanent repair, the connection and, if necessary, the system water must be evaluated by a specialist.

35

Why does the cabinet under the sink get wet only while the tap is in use?

The sink drain or faucet connection may be involved; a pressurized supply leak can also occur and needs checking.

Photograph where moisture first appears and tell the plumber whether it occurs during normal sink or tap use. Do not run extra water just to test an active leak. Dry the cabinet before closing it again.

36

Is it normal if the tap drips for a long time after it is turned off?

A brief release of water left in the spout differs from continuous dripping. Ongoing drips may indicate a failed seal or cartridge.

Record how long the drip continues and whether it changes between hot and cold settings. The cartridge and seal depend on the tap model. Share its make and model with the plumber.

37

What causes water accumulation at the base of the kitchen faucet?

Splashing water, a faucet seal or the sink-rim joint are different possible sources.

Note whether water collects only while the faucet or spray head is used. Check the cabinet below as well. Applying silicone to the surface can conceal a leak inside the connection.

38

Why does the pull-out kitchen faucet hose leak water into the cabinet?

The hose or connection may be leaking during use.

Note whether water appears only when the spray head is pulled out or whenever the tap is used. If an electrical appliance in the cabinet is wet, do not use or touch it. Give the faucet model to a plumber to identify a compatible hose.

39

If the valve under the sink won't turn, is it safe to force it?

No. A stuck valve or old connection may break and leak water when forced.

Photograph the location of the valve and any visible corrosion. Find out in advance where the main shut-off point is. Call a plumber for replacement or repair.

40

What to do if the washing machine's water hose looks swollen?

A swollen supply hose may fail. Stop using the washing machine and have the hose and connection checked.

Photograph the hose and connections. If the water valve is safely accessible, shut it according to the appliance instructions. A replacement hose must suit the water pressure and appliance connection.

41

The cabinet under the sink smells musty, but I cannot see a drip. Why?

Hidden moisture, an old leak or condensation can leave a musty odor in the cabinet.

Check the humidity of the base, back panel and surfaces adjacent to the wall. Record whether the odor changes with the machine cycle or rain. The source of moisture must be resolved before recoating.

42

Why does dirty water rise into the sink when the dishwasher drains?

A partial blockage or the way the drain is connected may cause backflow.

Note whether the sink also slows down during normal use. If there is overflow, stop using the machine and sink. Siphon, connection and common line should be examined together.

43

Why does the drain overflow when the washing machine pumps out water during the spin cycle?

Rapid draining of the machine may reveal a drain capacity or blockage problem.

Record whether this happens only with the machine or when other drains are used. If there is a floor-level outlet near the overflow, do not use or touch it. Ask a plumber to inspect both the machine drain connection and the waste pipe.

44

What to do if the hose connection at the back of the washing machine is dripping?

The water supply or drain hose may be leaking. Stop using the machine first.

Note at what stage of the program the water comes out and on which side of the hose it starts. Do not touch the wet electrical connection. Connection and hose suitability must be checked by the service.

45

Is water coming from the front bottom of the washing machine a plumbing leak?

Internal device leakage and external hose leakage must be distinguished.

Note whether water appears during filling, washing or draining. Stop using the machine. Contact appliance service with its model number; a plumber may also need to inspect the external connections.

46

After the water purifier was installed, it started dripping under the counter. What is examined?

The newly added supply, filter and discharge connections are the first control points.

Note whether dripping occurs only while the purifier is running or continues afterwards. If the socket or adapter is wet, do not touch it; stop using the unit and arrange safe isolation and inspection. Ask the installer to check the supply, filter and drain connections.

47

After the winter, the balcony tap started leaking water. From where?

Freeze damage to a valve or connection is possible. The source cannot be identified from the visible drip alone.

Note whether the water flows only when the tap is open or when it is closed. If there is moisture inside the wall, ask for expert inspection. Do not continue to use the damaged line.

48

Why does the outdoor faucet continue to flow when the garden hose is removed?

The closing mechanism of the faucet may not provide complete sealing.

Record whether the flow is a trickle or continuous water. Whether the meter changes at this time indicates hidden consumption. Valve and external line connection must be checked by the plumber.

49

Is the green trace on the copper pipe connection dangerous?

Green discoloration may indicate corrosion or past moisture. Check whether the connection is actively leaking.

Photograph the surface and surrounding material. If the connection becomes wet or water quality changes, request priority inspection. Just painting the outside will not eliminate the cause.

50

If the same pipe connection leaks again and again, why isn't changing the gasket enough?

A connection surface, pipe movement, or pressure problem can also disrupt the seal.

Tell the plumber when earlier repairs were done and which parts were used. The pipe support, connection surfaces and material compatibility should be checked together. Tightening the joint further each time may damage it.

51

If moisture started to appear after a hole was drilled in the wall, could the pipe have been punctured?

The timing raises concern for damage to a concealed pipe. A professional should investigate.

Photograph the location of the new hole and moisture. If there is electricity near wetness, do not use the relevant area. Do not drill new holes without verifying the pipe route.

52

Is the moisture under the parquet a leak or condensation?

Location, season and use relationship should be separated by measurement. A single photo does not give accurate results.

Note whether the dampness is near an exterior wall or a wet room. Meter readings and nearby leaks may provide clues. Find the source and dry the subfloor before replacing the floor covering.

53

What does it mean if the water in the toilet first rises and then falls slowly when you flush?

There may be a partial blockage or drain flow problem. Do not flush again if there is a risk of overflow.

Observe if other toilet or shower drains are slow as well. Odor and noise information aids common line inspection. Do not damage the ceramic by forcing it with a hard object.

54

How to find a permanent solution if the floor drain gets clogged frequently?

Identify whether the recurring blockage is caused by debris or by a problem in the drain pipe.

Note how often it blocks and what debris is present. A professional may need to inspect the drain slope, access and connections with a camera. Repeated chemical treatments are not a substitute for finding the cause.

55

If the bathtub overflow leaks into the apartment below, is the overflow connection faulty?

The overflow pipe or sealing around the tub may be leaking. Stop using the bath until it is checked.

Note whether the leak occurs only when the water reaches the overflow or also during an ordinary shower. Photograph the stain on the ceiling below. A plumber should assess both the connection and waterproofing.

56

Why does one bowl of a double sink fill when I pour water into the other?

Flow may be restricted where the two sink drains join.

Compare how quickly both bowls drain. If a dishwasher shares the drain, note what happens when it pumps out water. Have the connections and downstream pipe inspected.

57

If it takes too long for hot water to come from the tap, is there a malfunction?

The distance from the heater and how the hot-water system is used can affect waiting time. A new or marked change deserves investigation.

Record how long each tap takes to run hot. The heater location, pipe length and any circulation system should be considered. The solution depends on the pipe layout and appliance.

58

What should be checked if the meter is running while the main water valve of the apartment is closed?

The position of the shutoff relative to the meter and any other connected lines need checking.

Record how much the meter has changed with date and time. Verify correct meter matching with building management and water utility. Do not interfere with the meter or sealed connections.

59

The water leak has been repaired, but the stain on the ceiling is growing. Does the malfunction persist?

Residual moisture may continue to spread, but a new leak is also possible. Track the change and have moisture measured before redecorating.

Trace the border of the stain with dated photographs. Note the change with use of the upper floor. It should be verified that the moisture has dried before coating and painting.
